What to expect during house installation

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Rural Fibre Co is running brand new fibre cables into your property, no matter what type of technology you've used before.

So no matter whether you're a fixed wireless or satellite broadband user, you can expect the same when Rural Fibre Co comes to install your premises.

Here’s what you can expect before getting access to your Splice Internet service:

How Rural Fibre Co connects fibre from the street to your house

  1. Locate the pit or conduit in the street near your property.

  2. Plan the route for the fibre cable from the street to your preferred entry point.

  3. Run the cable via trenching or underground conduit – this may involve digging a small path across your nature strip and through your property - for example, beside your driveway.

  4. Bring the fibre inside through an external wall to a socket location chosen with you.

  5. Install the internal socket ready for your modem connection – they'll provide one just for your service.

What to expect during the Rural Fibre Co install visit

How long will it take?

  • Most installations take 2–4 hours, depending on property layout and complexity.

What will they do?

  • You'll have two sets of work which need to be done, typically on the same day:

  • External: the external services team will do all the work to get the cable from the street pit to outside your house

  • Internal: then the internal install team will take that cable and run it into your house, setting up the sockets and testing your connection

What access do they need?

  • Inside your home to install the socket.

  • Outside areas where trenching or conduit work is required.

What should I do to get ready?

  • Ensure a clear path to the planned socket location.

  • Keep pets secure.

  • Have an adult (18+) present for the entire appointment.

What happens after installation?

  • Testing: The technician will check the fibre signal from the street to your socket is working

  • Activation: Once testing is complete, we’ll activate your service (often on the same day).

  • Going live: Once your service is ready, you'll receive an email and you should see Splice appear as a network. Then you're ready to start experiencing the fibre difference!
