When your home is being connected to the Rural Fibre Co network, civil works may be needed to install the lead-in cable. Here’s what that means and what you can expect.
What are civil works?
Civil works are the physical tasks needed to bring fibre from the street to your home. They can include:
Drilling – creating a small conduit tunnel under your property to place cable in.
Trenching – digging a narrow channel to lay the fibre cable.
Conduit installation – placing protective piping for the cable to run through.
After installation, we’ll always reinstate your property to the way it was before works began – or as close as possible.
Will you dig up my property?
Only if it’s needed.
Where possible we'll drill underneath the ground, especially where there are obstacles like landscaped gardens.
If trenching is required, we keep it narrow and minimise disturbance, restoring it back to how it was before.
Understanding pit access and cleanup
Pit access: We need to open the fibre pit in your street to connect the lead-in cable – this is usually on the nature strip or road verge.
Cleanup: Once work is complete, we’ll restore lawns, nature strips and driveways, and remove debris so your property looks tidy.
Sometimes it may take a few weeks for grass in patches to grow back. If you're ever unsatisfied with the works completed you can reach out to our team and we'll make sure someone gets out there to make it right.
