Can I keep my existing email address?

Updated over a month ago

It depends on who gave you the email address.

If you use a standalone email (not linked to your internet provider), it will work with our service. Examples are Gmail, Outlook, Proton Mail, Live.com, Hotmail, Yahoo, Apple and other.

If your current email address is from your old internet provider (like Aussie Broadband, Bigpond, or similar), you might be able to keep it but you'll need to check with them directly. Some providers let you keep your email account for a small monthly fee, even after you cancel your internet service. Others may close the account once your service ends.

Here’s what we recommend:

  • Before you switch, contact your old provider and ask what happens to your email address if you leave.

  • If keeping it isn't an option, consider setting up a free email service like Gmail, Outlook or Proton Mail. These don’t depend on who provides your internet and are easier to take with you wherever you go.

  • If you move to a new email, make sure to update your details with important services (like banks, newsletters, or schools) so you don’t miss anything.
