What to do if your fibre is cut or damaged on your property

Updated over 3 weeks ago

A damaged fibre cable needs urgent attention to restore your service and prevent further issues. Here’s what to do.

Safety first

  • Do not touch or attempt to move exposed fibre cables – they can be fragile and may cause injury if broken shards are present.

  • Keep people and pets away from the damaged area until it’s secured.

How to report damage

  1. Call Rural Fibre Co immediately on 1300 111 466

  2. If it’s safe to do so, take clear photos of the damage and surrounding area.

  3. Email the photos and your property details to Rural Fibre Co at [email protected] so they can assess before arriving on site.

Repair process

  • Rural Fibre Co will dispatch a technician to inspect and repair the damage.

  • In most cases, repairs can be completed the same day, but severe damage or safety hazards may take longer.

  • If excavation or driveway reinstatement is needed, this may be scheduled separately after the main repair.

Preventing damage in future

  • Always Dial Before You Dig to check for underground services before starting any landscaping, fencing, or excavation.

  • Mark out where the fibre enters your property so contractors or gardeners know to avoid it.

  • Keep heavy equipment and vehicles away from the cable route if it runs across your yard or driveway.

Tip: Reporting damage as soon as it happens helps reduce downtime and makes repairs quicker.
