Your Rural Fibre Co installation may include a Nokia WiFi Beacon 3.1 to help extend your WiFi coverage. When it’s supplied during installation, our team will set it up for you. If you’re adding one yourself later, follow these steps to get the best performance.
Connecting the beacon
Place the beacon in a location where it can receive a strong WiFi signal from your NTD/ONT — ideally halfway between the NDT/ONT and the area where you need better coverage.
Plug the beacon into a power outlet.
Wait for the indicator light to turn solid white — this means it’s connected.
(If the light stays red or blinking for more than 2 minutes, see Troubleshooting below.)
Setting up via the Nokia WiFi app
Download the Nokia WiFi app from the App Store or Google Play.
Open the app and follow the prompts to add a new beacon.
The app will guide you through placement checks and confirm when your beacon is connected.
Using ethernet backhaul (optional but better)
If possible, connect the beacon to your NTD/ONT using an ethernet cable.
This provides a faster, more stable link between your main network and the beacon.
Troubleshooting setup issues
If the beacon isn’t connecting:
Check power – make sure it’s plugged in and the outlet is working.
Check distance – move the beacon closer to your NTD/ONT to ensure it’s within range.
Restart – unplug the beacon, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
Check LEDs – solid white means connected, blinking white means starting up, red means no connection.
If it still won’t connect, open the Nokia WiFi app for guided troubleshooting or contact Splice Support.
Tip: Avoid placing the beacon behind thick walls, near microwaves or fish tanks, or inside cabinets, as this can reduce signal strength.
