Understanding Critical Information Summaries (CIS)

Updated over 3 weeks ago

What is a CIS?

A Critical Information Summary (CIS) is a short, plain-English document that outlines the key details of a telco service you're considering. It’s designed to help you understand exactly what you’re signing up for so there are no surprises later.

Every telco in Australia is required to provide a CIS under industry rules. Think of it as a cheat sheet for your internet plan: easy to read, upfront, and jargon-free.

What it includes

Your CIS includes:

  • What the service is – including the type of technology and what it delivers

  • Speeds – typical download/upload speeds during peak times

  • Costs – setup fees, monthly costs, and any extra charges

  • Contract terms – month-to-month or fixed-length contracts

  • Equipment you’ll need

  • Support and complaints info – how to get help or raise an issue

  • Service limits – like data caps or speed shaping

  • A link to the full terms (Standard Form of Agreement)

Why is it important?

A CIS makes it easier to compare plans and make an informed choice. It’s a handy, no-nonsense summary that puts the fine print into plain English.

Where can I find Splice Internet’s CIS?

You can find our CIS:

  • On the plan’s product page

  • On our dedicated CIS page

  • In your welcome email when you sign up
