Your expected internet speed depends on your plan, how you’re connected, and when you’re testing. Here’s what to expect with a Splice Internet service over the Rural Fibre Co network.
Based on your plan
Under normal conditions, you should be getting speeds close to your plan’s maximum when connected via ethernet:
50/20 — ~50 Mbps download / ~20 Mbps upload
100/20 — ~100 Mbps download / ~20 Mbps upload
500/500 — ~500 Mbps download / ~500 Mbps upload
1000/1000 — ~1000 Mbps download / ~1000 Mbps upload
2500/2500 — ~2500 Mbps download / ~2500 Mbps upload
Peak vs off-peak
On a fibre service, speeds should remain very close to your plan maximum even during peak periods.
Minor slowdowns may happen if your household has multiple high-demand activities at once (e.g. multiple 4K streams, gaming, and large uploads simultaneously).
If you're on a 50/20 or 100/20 plan, you may experience more performance issues when multiple devices are running simultaneously.
WiFi vs wired speeds
Wired (ethernet) connections give the most accurate measure of your plan speed.
WiFi speeds can vary depending on:
Distance from your router.
Walls, floors, and other obstructions.
Interference from other devices.
For the fastest and most consistent results, test on a device connected directly via ethernet.
